HIROYUKI
KAMANO
Hiroyuki Kamano is partner of the Kamano Sogo
Law Offices in Tokyo. His principal areas of practice are
international transaction, banking, and investment law. He is a
member of the Tokyo Bar and the District of Columbia (U.S.) Bar.
Prior to establishing the firm, Mr. Kamano practiced law at
Arnold & Porter in Washington, D.C. for eight years.
Mr. Kamano is active as a lecturer and commentator. He has
lectured at various U.S. and Japanese institutes, including
Georgetown University Law Center, the Smithsonian Institute, the
Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. State Department, and the
Japanese Foreign Office and the Japan Federation of Economic
Organizations (Keidanren). He also appears as a guest speaker
on Japanese television.
Mr. Kamano has authored numerous English and Japanese books and
articles in the area of U.S.-Japanese economic relations as well
as international trade, banking, and investment law. He
published a book entitled “Patent Mafia Attacks Japan” in 1993.
Further, he contributed to his own bi-weekly column “Washington
Hotline” in Tokyo Keizai (Oriental Business Weekly) for four
years. His articles also have appeared in the East Asian
Executive Report, Speaking of Japan, Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Japan
Economic Journal), Nihon Kogyo Shimbun (Japan Industrial
Journal), and Kokusai Shoji Homu (Journal of International
Business Law).
Prior to practicing law in Washington, D.C. as an American
lawyer, Mr. Kamano was affiliated with the Legal Research
Institute of the Supreme Court of Japan from 1979 to 1981.
Before that he served the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan
from 1971 to 1979. During this period he was active in various
international conferences, including the Puerto Rico Summit
Conference in 1976, the Meeting between Prime Minister Fukuda
and President Carter in 1978, the Conference of International
Economic Cooperation in 1976, the United Nations Committee on
Multinational Corporations in 1977 and the OECD Ministerial
Conference in 1976 and 1977.
Mr. Kamano received his law degree from Kyoto University in 1969
and Master of Law degrees from the University of Tokyo and
Harvard Law School in 1971 and 1974.
