JOSÉ ALVES PEREIRA
Graduated in law 1968, Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon. Member of the Portuguese Bar since 1971; Member of the Mozambique Bar since
1997; Qualified to practice law before all courts in both countries. Vice President of the Portuguese Bar from 1992 to 1998. Representative of the
Portuguese Bar Association during such period in the Council of European Bars (C.C.B.E.). President of the Arbitration and Mediation Center
of the Portuguese Council of Liberal Professions from 2000 to 2002.

Founding Member of the Portuguese Arbitration Association. Member of the panels of International arbitrators of the International Chamber of
Commerce (ICC) and of the American Arbitration Association (ICDR). Member of the Mediation and Conflict Prevention Commission of the UIA. Member of
the Arbitration Committees of IBA and UIA. Member of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Member of the London Court of International Arbitration. Author of various articles, papers and chapters of comparative law books on various
legal matters and, in particular, on Civil and Corporate Law, Aviation, Arbitration and Mediation. Arbitrator in various disputes, both as Chairman and Panel Member, in cases dealing
with Maritime and Aviation, Corporate Matters, Civil Construction, Commercial Transactions, Advertising
and Media and Tourism. Speaker in numerous conferences both in Portugal and abroad on legal matters. Member of a Commission established in 2000 by the Ministry of Justice of Portugal
for study of ADR’s. Member of the Jury for selection of Judges and Mediators for Peace Courts in
Portugal. Member of the International Bar Association (IBA), Union of European Lawyers (UIA),
American Bar Association (ABA) and Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA). President for Portugal of the World Jurist Association. Managing-partner of the law firm “ALVES PEREIRA, TEIXEIRA DE SOUSA & ASSOCIADOS –
